Telecoms and ICT for wind farms
We build and run a wind farm’s telecoms and IT, from construction to operation, for owners and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors.

On 3 of Egypt’s 4 operating private wind farms
As of October 2026, 4 private wind farms are in commercial operation in Egypt under the build-own-operate (BOO) scheme. We have worked on 3 of them: Ras Ghareb Wind Energy, Red Sea Wind Energy and Amunet Wind Power. Together they are 1,412.5 of the 1,662.5 MW of private wind capacity in operation (85%).
Both private wind farms commissioned in Egypt since 2022, Red Sea Wind Energy and Amunet, are among the three.
Figures as of October 2026, from public commercial operation records.
Close to the sites on the Gulf of Suez
All 6 of our wind farm projects are on the Gulf of Suez, in Egypt’s Red Sea Governorate, around Ras Ghareb and Ras Shokeir. Our field team is based in Ras Ghareb, and the Senses Service Desk supports it remotely in English and Arabic.
These are desert sites. Our standard backhaul for a construction site is a 30 m mast and a licensed microwave link from one of the licensed telecom operators we work with. We prepare and follow the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and military approvals the link needs. You sign the operator’s service agreement directly, and we add no markup to the connection.

What a wind farm needs from ICT at each phase
Each phase of a wind farm needs different ICT, and a different party often buys it. On our projects, ENGIE has bought on the owner’s side and PowerChina as the EPC contractor.
Construction site
The temporary site facilities (TSF) are the offices, camp and stores used during construction. They need internet, LAN and Wi-Fi in the first weeks of mobilization, with a separate network for each party on site. Our standard programme takes about 8 weeks from survey to handover:
- 1Site survey, line-of-sight study and predictive Wi-Fi design
- 2NTRA and military approvals for the microwave link
- 3A 30 m mast and a licensed microwave link from a licensed operator
- 4Separate network segments for the owner, the EPC contractor, third parties and visitors, each with its own wireless network and bandwidth limit
- 5Site acceptance test (SAT) and a handover pack: as-built drawings, IP and VLAN inventory, test reports, port matrix and wireless survey report
Where we have done it: all 6 wind farm projects. Infinity Power Ras Ghareb went from survey to go-live in 7 weeks.
Substation and plant buildings
The permanent plant needs communications at the substation and plant buildings, commissioned and ready for handover to the owner:
- IP telephony (IP-PBX), with desk phones and DECT handsets
- office network and wireless
- mobile coverage (2G, 3G and 4G LTE)
- video conferencing and audio-visual (AV) rooms
Where we have done it: Suez Wind Energy. Mobile coverage for 1,000 concurrent users at the north site is delivered. IP telephony and video conferencing for the north and south substations are in delivery in 2026.
Operations
By the commercial operation date (COD), the owner’s companies need IT that runs under a service level agreement (SLA):
- a service desk in English and Arabic, with Priority 1 incidents acknowledged within 1 hour at any time
- Email and collaboration, identity and access
- cybersecurity operations and audits
- enterprise resource planning (ERP) support
- the ICT services the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system depends on: networks, connectivity, access and IT support
- network operations at the substation
Where we have done it: Ras Ghareb Wind Energy since 2018 and Red Sea Wind Energy since 2021, both starting before each plant’s COD; the ENGIE Egypt service desk since February 2018 (550 tickets in 2025); and operations enablement at Amunet in 2025.
Across all phases
For owners we contract with directly: reviews of the EPC contractor’s ICT design and work, and audits against the owner’s group technology standards.
Where we have done it: reviews and oversight of the EPC contractor’s ICT work at Ras Ghareb Wind Energy (2017–2018) and regular technology audits at Red Sea Wind Energy. At Shokeir Wind Energy, reviews of the EPC contractor’s IT submittals on request and compliance with ENGIE Group Technology Unification.
The team that built the site network stays to run it
On Ras Ghareb Wind Energy and Red Sea Wind Energy, we mobilized the construction site first. We took on managed IT services in 2018 and 2021, before each plant’s COD, and we still run them.
Frequently asked questions
Who do you work for on a wind farm?
Owners and EPC contractors. On our Gulf of Suez projects we have worked directly for the owners’ project companies, including ENGIE’s, and for PowerChina as the EPC contractor.
Do you handle the NTRA permits?
Yes. We prepare and follow the NTRA and military approvals that the site’s microwave link needs.
How long does construction site connectivity take?
Our standard programme takes about 8 weeks from survey to handover. At Infinity Power’s 200 MW wind farm at Ras Ghareb, survey to go-live took 7 weeks.
Do you support the SCADA system?
We provide the ICT services the SCADA system depends on: networks, connectivity, access and IT support.
Do you have a team near the site?
Our field team is based in Ras Ghareb, on the Gulf of Suez. The Senses Service Desk supports it remotely.
